Popular phrases used by most wannabe/whackers
You will find most wannabe's and whackers are almost identical to the next one. They all suffer the same delusions and power trips. Below is a list of terms a whacker or wannabe could be found saying while trying to find excuses for their actions or behaviors. A true wannabe or whacker can not be swayed back into reality after saying these statements so it's not worth trying.
Explanations are in red.
1. In my current (insert type) job, I help or work with the police.
REACT type club members and security guards will sometimes be convinced that they are in direct working relation with the police. This is not the occasional thing but "they couldn't do their job without us" type of deal.
2. I plan on attending Criminal Justice classes and do not know what I want to do after I graduate.
A lot of wannabes will tell others that they are going to college to be a cop or they are thinking about it.
3. I plan on being an EMT.
Same idea as phrase #2.
4. I plan on being a LE officer or I am in the "application stages".
I ran across a couple whackers who were already planning to outfit their POV's for a future LE position they were only in the application stages for. I've heard of a few more since that time so I added this question
5. I want to install lights now for a proposed future job/task.
Same idea as phrase #4 but more for cadets, explorers, and other "junior" organization members who are foaming at the mouth to use lights and sirens when they turn the right age to use them.
6. I have emergency lighting in all areas of my vehicle "just in case".
For those who put let's say a light bar on their vehicle just in case they need to use it when they feel the need to. Basically to show off the lights and use them when they find reasons to. Most REACT and other amber light clubs fall under this category.
7. I have been a member of more than one volunteer agency but feel I did not fit in.
Usually the impostor type or die hard wannabe will get shooed out of a few departments before giving up and joining an amber light club. Although rare, they are still out there.
8. If the law doesn't say it's illegal, then there's nothing wrong with it.
This is common sense for most but falls on deaf ears for others. Amber light abusers usually stick to this thought process like a religion. They don't look at the moral side of things when mounting and abusing their lights for whatever reason without purpose.
9. The local cops like my lights or see nothing wrong with them.
I get this a lot from whackers. They defend their lighting abuse by saying the local cops like them and encourage their behavior. The times I did check on this, the claims were untrue.
10. I can not turn off my warning lights because they are tied into my vehicle's OEM lights.
This is for those who claim their OEM STT lights or head lights aren't "good enough." So they put official style lights on their rear deck to "supplement" their STT lights or the hook in light bar take down/spot lights their their head lights since their headlights aren't bright enough. We are also seeing this with the "a" pillar spot light also. If there are problems with your OEM lights, get them fixed.
Ten questions to tell if you or someone you know is a whacker/wannabe.
1. Do you have emergency lighting equipment on your vehicle and you're not part of any fire or police department or with a professional service who authorizes the use of lights (construction, snow plows, contractors)?
2. Do you have brand new police or fire equipment just lying around that you bought or traded for?
3. Do you have more than one cop or fire fighter friend that you have nothing in common with and/or loiter in places where public safety officials hang out at themselves?
4. Do you receive public safety catalogs monthly and look at them daily?
5. Do you listen to a police/fire scanner more than 12 hours a day and get an adrenaline rush whenever an exciting call is paged?
a) Do you go to calls just to "be one" with the action?
6. Do you have a membership in more than four police/fire fighter message boards and frequent them more than five times a week to feel "part of the club"?
7. Do you have at least one piece of public safety equipment that you bought for the sole point that a local or your favorite department uses the same thing?
8. Do you watch reality police/fire shows and tell your friends how you would have done something differently or better?
9. Do you have a different scanner for each location you might be in for any amount of time (car, house, job, etc) and you're not a scanner hobbyist?
10. Have you dreamed or talked about being on a police or fire department and either never tried or failed more than 5 times?
These questions are for those who have never been on any police/fire/safety department. If you find at least one question offensive then you have failed.
